Hong Kong faces an ever-widening rich-poor gap. The city has the world’s 6th highest GDP per capita but also almost the highest income inequality among developed economies. Philanthropists have long tried to improve social conditions through charity, but in recent years, social enterprises have emerged as an alternative. ‘Love Plus Hope’ Community Interest Company (L Plus H CIC) is a case in point which reveals the meaning of “doing good well” through entrepreneurial philanthropy. This case illustrates the values and impacts behind this type of entrepreneurial vehicle, showcases its decision dilemmas and provides multi-stakeholder perspectives for critical reflection and societal learning.
